High humidity or damp conditions will require the bearing to have seals or shields. Solid contamination such as dust, mud, wood chips, metal flakes and other solid material will also require the bearing to have shields or seals. It should be born in mind that where solid contamination is high then secondary forms of sealing are desirable.

Bearings generate their own heat but most heat will come from the rotor. Either air, oil or water can be used to cool the bearing however when their is the possibility of a high temperature gradient from the inner ring to the outer ring then special attention should be paid to the internal clearance. If no care is taken preloading could occur which will quickly lead to bearing failure.

The life of a bearing is defined as the number of revolutions (or the number of operating hours at a given constant speed) the bearing can endure before the first sign of fatigue. The service life of a bearing depends to a large extent on the operating conditions while procedures used to mount and maintain it are equally important.

At "Electric Motor Bearings" & Belts, we can help you repair or provide you with the right motor for the job. No task is ever too difficult for our professional team. We provide services for Apparatus Repair, Electric Motor Sales, Power & Transmission Products, Power and Transmission Products from some of the top national /international brands.

One of the most important components of any electro-mechanical maintenance program is the lubrication of bearings. Yet, this vital aspect of preventive maintenance remains one of the least understood functions of maintenance. There is constant debate concerning whether a bearing should be ‘flushed,’ a limited amount of grease added, how often or if the motor should be operating or tagged-out. Many motor manufactures outline the preferred, and safest, method for lubricating electric motor skf bearings. There are specific physical properties for this process in the motor bearing housing and in order to protect motor windings from contamination.

There is some disagreement among electric motor manufacturers as to the best bearing arrangement for horizontal-type, grease-lubricated, ball bearing motors. There is also disagreement on the best technique for replenishing the grease supply in the bearing cartridge. If the user of these motors wishes to follow the recommendations of all these manufacturers for their respective motors, he must stock or have available iko bearings in a given size with no shield, single-shield and double-shield. He should also train personnel in the relubrication techniques for each make of motor. The confusion thus created in the minds of maintenance personnel may indeed bring about a less-than-satisfactory method of maintaining expensive, important equipment.
