By shape, gains advantage usually by using spheres or rollers, or by
forming flexure bearings.
By material, exploits the nature of the bearing material used. (An example would be using plastics that have low surface
friction.)
By fluid, exploits the low viscosity of a layer of fluid, such as a
lubricant or as a pressurized medium to keep the two solid parts from touching,
or by reducing the normal force between them.
By fields, exploits electromagnetic fields, such as magnetic fields, to
keep solid parts from touching.
Combinations of these can even be employed within the same bearing. An
example of this is where the cage is made of plastic, and it separates the
rollers/balls, which reduce friction by their shape and finish.
For high speed and high power machines, a loss of lubricant can result in
rapid bearing heating and damage due to friction. Also in dirty environments the
oil can become contaminated with dust or debris that increases friction. In
these applications, a fresh supply of lubricant can be continuously supplied to
the ina bearing and all other contact surfaces,
and the excess can be collected for filtration, cooling, and possibly reuse.
Pressure oiling is commonly used in large and complex internal combustion
engines in parts of the engine where directly splashed oil cannot reach, such as
up into overhead valve assemblies.[18] High speed turbochargers also typically
require a pressurized oil system to cool the bearings and keep them from burning
up due to the heat from the turbine.
Timken Fafnir hybrid ball bearings combine ceramic rolling elements with
superfinished steel rings. This “hybrid” combination provides superior ceramic
performance at a cost-effective price. This design also enables ceramic bearings
to deliver outstanding service life and operating characteristics at high
spindle speeds.Design combines ceramic rolling elements with superfinished steel
rings to run faster, cooler and longer.
Advanced design and materials help improve rigidity while reducing noise,
vibration and operating temperature. Can be ordered with or without
seals.Expanded options include custom preloads, 15° or 25° contact angles, and
designs to ISO/ABMA 02, 10, 19 specifications. This lineup of skf bearing includes a basic series that meets ISO standards,
and a specified series targeting machine tools.A series of sealed angular
contact ball bearings with prepacked grease is available. The Robust series of
high performance bearings include, a wide lineup of bearings, ranging from
highly rigid types to ultrahigh-speed types.
NSK offers a wide lineup of precision angular contact ball bearings where
customers to choose the optimum specification of bearing according to the needs
of their application. NSK precision angular contact ball bearings provide the
perfect solution for applications requiring high runout accuracy of rotating
machine parts for "high speed bearings" , such as the machine tool main
spindles, or the application of faster rotating speeds.
